About

Ksenia Kadaner is a visual artist based in Tbilisi. She works on the border between seeing and recognising, where a form appears first as a trace, a fragment, a body, a sign, a landscape - before it settles into a fixed meaning.

She paints, draws, works in mixed media. What holds her is the moment before an image becomes readable, when uncertainty is still the subject.

Artist Statement

My work begins where the usual reading of the world stops. I look for forms at the edge of recognition - a trace, a stain, a body, a landscape - that can mean something without being fixed by it.

What matters to me is to hold the moment before naming. The image has already begun to act, but it is not yet a sign.

This feels necessary now. In a time of quick reactions and hard definitions, we lose the ability to stay with what is unclear. Painting, for me, is where it returns - it asks you to slow down, to look longer, to wait before you decide what it is.
